EP Premiere: Resignation – ‘You Are More Than Right Now’

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

Resignation’s demo last year was a powerful introduction to the band, a potent sampler of emocore pulling from artists like Boysetsfire and Dead by Sunday. With their new EP You Are More Than Right Now, the Toledo, OH, five-piece have made incredible strides; the EP presents a more melodic, brighter take on emo–think early Get Up Kids, Texas Is the Reason. It’s clearly a passion project, though–Resignation doesn’t just borrow from that sound, they make it entirely their own.

Wes Allen’s impassioned delivery and heartfelt lyricism are certainly part of the draw; he’s got a clearer, more tuneful voice than many of his peers, and it’s hard not to want to shout along when he screams out, “I won’t give up / I can’t give up on you” in the bridge of closer “The Pieces.” Allen reflects on the EP’s lyrical content: “In 2021, a single conversation prevented my son from taking his own life. From there, he was able to receive much-needed care. The songs on this EP reflect that moment in my family’s life and how it shaped us. Additionally, it gave this band a reason to create music in hopes of de-stigmatizing conversations regarding mental health & suicide prevention.”

You Are More Than Right Now is out Friday on Friend Club Records.
