Video Premiere: Pickle Darling — ‘Greta’

Posted: by The Editor

Lukas Mayo, the New Zealand multi-instrumentalist behind Pickle Darling, dropped one of the years first great albums way back in January with his debut LP Bigness, and today we’re premiering the video for “Greta,” the albums idyllic-sounding third track. The song begins with a hushed synth that sounds like it’s been buried inside of a SNES cartridge for decades and some buoyant, glitchy drum hits while pitch-shifted vocals duck in and out of the mix as Mayo sings “Another sad boy song,” a tongue-in-cheek jab at those who find his music to twee. The music video, which was directed by Nate Tamblyn, is as similarly bizarre and offbeat as his last video for “Rinse Spin Cycle / Nicolas Cage,” it looks like an episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor remade entirely in MS Paint and it totally rules.

Bigness is out now via Z Tapes
