The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.

Russian Circles — “Arluck”

Post-metal legends Russian Circles are back, folks. They’re releasing their seventh full-length LP, Blood Year, this August and accompanying that announcement is one of their best songs yet. “Arluck” is just as massive as fans should expect from the trio by now.

Bay Faction — “Florida Guilt” video

Bay Faction released a video for the title track of Florida Guilt, their LP that was released last December. It follows a couple through their woes and culminates with a plot twist.

Baggage — “Horseshoe”

Baggage’s long-awaited debut LP should be dropping this summer, and if single “Horseshoe” is any indication, it’s going to be great.

Field Medic — “Henna Tattoo” video

Field Medic released a video for “Henna Tattoo,” one of the singles from his most recent LP. It’s quirky and abstract, filled with dance moves and floral graphics.

The Appleseed Cast — “Time the Destroyer”

We haven’t heard much from The Appleseed Cast since their essential, ethereal 2013 LP Illumination Ritual, and it’s a pleasure to have them back. “Time the Destroyer” is the first single from their new LP The Fleeting Light of Impermanence (out June 28), and it spends its first three minutes in a tense, dramatic haze before pulsing into the kind of deeply felt post-rock that has made them underground heroes for two decades.

Elton John Cena — All Rats Go To Heaven

Elton John Cena’s newest release, All Rats Go To Heaven, is Retirement Party’s dreamy cousin. Frontwoman Avery Springer (who fronts Retirement Party) oozes raw authenticity. Clocking in with a play time under 10 minutes, the EP doesn’t waste a beat. All Rats Go To Heaven is full of shoulder-shimmy-inducing, emotionally crushing, electric bops that are worth not just one listen—but 20.

Twentythreenineteen — “Tangled”

Twentythreenineteen’s debut LP, out next month, is one of my favorite albums I’ve heard so far this year. The album’s latest single, “Tangled,” was an immediate standout for me, and I’m sure it’ll be one of yours too.

LITE — “Temple”

“Temple,” the new song from Japanese math rock group LITE, can sometimes sound like two rock instrumentals played on top of each other, and they make the mess that description brings to mind sound absolutely intoxicating. “Temple” comes from their new record Multiple, out digitally on Topshelf June 6.
