Video Premiere: Spite House – “Dying Leaves”

Posted: by The Editor

Spite House’s self-titled debut was one of 2022’s hidden gems. The trio draws from the emo-edged punk rock of bands like Samiam and Jawbreaker, and there’s a splash of Title Fight or Fiddlehead in there too, for a more modern reference point. Album highlight “Dying Leaves” is the band’s most anthemic track, lacing alt-rock hooks into the heavier formula, and it’s a real winner. We’re stoked to premiere the video for the track exclusively below.

Frontman Max Lajoie, who also filmed and edited the video, shares, “I had the idea for this video for a longtime, but I was only able to complete it recently. It is a bit weird to release a music video of a previously released song, but the concept of the video was very personal and a thing I needed to do. I went back to where I grew up and moved out from when I was 17. I shot the walk I was doing every morning to go to school, then in the middle of the video, I highlight the good things that are in my life, like my girlfriend, my friends, what this band means to me and people showing up at shows, etc… The video ends with the path my dad took before passing away. I had never been there and it gave me some sort of closure to this chapter of my life.”
