Video Premiere: Max Gowan — ‘Couch’

North Carolina’s Max Gowan makes music that could soundtrack either a lucid dream or a mind-altering experience. On his 2017 project Far Corners, he melds the intimate haziness of Molly Drag with the rhythmic propulsion of In Rainbows-era Radiohead. The result is fascinating; a sound that ventures toward astral territory while simultaneously retaining the close quarters of a bedroom or dorm, which is where it was crafted.

“Couch” is one of the brighter cuts from the record, and today we’re premiering Gowan’s abstractly fluorescent video for it. Produced by VSquid, the video weaves between distorted visuals of Gowan and friends roaming around outside, and a shot of him performing in the middle of a train track. It’s a fitting visual accompaniment for one of his soundscapes and the song itself is a great introduction to him as an artist.
