At the end of July Chicago emo-pop group Bottom Bracket announced they’d signed to Count Your Lucky Stars and would be releasing their sophomore LP I’m So Afraid of Where in November. They released a single along with those announcements, too, called “Unsavory,” and at the time I thought it was the best song the band had ever released, a banger that married Take This to Your Grave-style pop-punk with blistering math riffs. Turns out that I was wrong–the best Bottom Bracket song is the one they released earlier this month, called “Rainbow in the Rear View,” a song that does everything “Unsavory” does even better.
That means I’m stoked to get the chance to premiere the video for “Rainbow in the Rear View,” a full-on road trip comedy condensed into three and a half minutes. It makes me feel like I’m 15 listening to Proper for the first time again. It rules. About the song and its video, vocalist/guitarist Mario Cannamela notes
“Rainbow in the Rear View” is about making big moves, and more specifically, the day I moved away from my hometown after years of planning. Despite how emotional of a day that was, and how scary it seemed to leave a place so comfortable, so familiar, and so important to me, I knew deep in my soul I wanted to pursue life in a new city. I remember thinking, “if I don’t try going through with this now, I don’t think I ever will.” The video depicts an allegory to this in the lens of being in a band in general. We’re in the van going on a big adventure, encountering bad weather and mechanical issues, yet we press on. Why take risks or make big moves? Because we’re on a mission to do what we love, and we have more to show everyone.
Check out the video for “Rainbow in the Rear View” now.
I’m So Afraid of Where is out November 8th via Count Your Lucky Stars.
