Track Review: Nuvolascura – “and in the end, you threw it all away”

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

Four years have gone by since Nuvolascura last had a full project out in the world. In that time we’ve all lived an eon, worn ragged by our political landscape, hunted for sport by the endless tides of historical events that flicker from our handhelds across our faces, struggled through god knows what else, to be standing here today. “and in the end, you threw it all away” resonates with this. Its quick minute-sixteen runtime feels like that eon, the lyrics speaking to this absolute threadbare headspace I know that many of us are feeling:

These days I avoid mirrors.

Stop myself from facing the destruction.

Try to feel normal.

Always, in the back of my mind

Is the fear of unknown

With arpeggiating rhythms and crunchy drumming for its backdrop, the single steers into classic Nuvolascura territory–intensity pulsing through grimacingly beautiful songwriting. The single’s release heralds the looming shadow of How This All Ends, the third full length album by the band, and given its brief yet complexly knotted composition I think we’ll be in store for another classic–one sorely needed in this day and age.

How This All Ends is out July 21st.
