Pennsylvania’s Head Spell play a brisk form of emo, pop-punk and alt-rock that recalls Magnolia-era Turnover, Head North and other Northeastern emo acts like Del Paxton and Oso Oso. Their latest single “Resolve,” off their upcoming EP Take What You Can Get, is a pleasant amalgamation of those aforementioned acts that’s sure to woo many of this site’s followers. However, unlike the standard romantic woes that most emo bands play with, frontman Jon Arocho said “Resolve” is about becoming a parent and reckoning with that newfound responsibility as a role model.

“It was written a week after my son was born, and going through that whole experience left me reflecting on the past year. I realized I wasn’t the role model/person I wanted to be, and so ‘Resolve’ was written at a pivotal turning point in my life towards me become a better person and father.”
