The Alt Weekly Roundup

The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.

Charmaine – “Jasmine Shredder”

Charmaine’s newest single (her fifth since the release of the Longsuffering EP in January) is a bit of a left turn. Rather than her usual dreamy electropop, she leans harder into the shoegazey elements that’ve always been under the surface. “Jasmine Shredder” is darker and heavier than anything Charmaine’s released before, and it’s a promising new direction for the Kansas City singer.

we’rethecurrency – “The D.E.N.N.I.S System”

Eugene, OR, screamo band we’rethecurrency is heading off to greener pastures. On their new single “The D.E.N.N.I.S System,” they shift toward a cleaner, catchier sound, without losing their edge.

Daisyhead – “Lost in the Comfort”

We’re burning out a fire that we had since we were young,” Michael Roe sings in the first verse of “Lost in the Comfort,” Daisyhead’s first single in three years. It doesn’t sound like they’ve lost that spark, though–the Tennessee alt rockers are delivering bigger hooks and meatier riffs than ever before, and this single is an excellent return after a period of quiet.

Been Stellar – “Adored”

Been Stellar’s debut LP made an impression on us last year, and they’ve kept up that momentum throughout 2025. Last month’s “Breakaway” was a great jolt of energy, and their new single “Adored” is a more restrained, intimate look at the rising NYC indie rockers.

Jay Som – “Float”

It’s finally happening. After six long years, Jay Som will follow up the excellent Anak Ko with Belong, dropping in October. The album’s lead single is “Float,” an aptly titled low-key indie rock track that seems to ride a gentle breeze. It’s got a great vocal feature of Jimmy Eat World’s Jim Adkins, whose voice melds with Melissa Duterte’s seamlessly.

The Alternative’s ‘New Music Friday’ playlist

Each week we compile a playlist of songs our staff has been jamming. We post it on Fridays and then include it in each edition of the Weekly Roundup to make sure you don’t miss any of the great music we’re recommending.
