The Alt Weekly Roundup (6/30/25)
Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff
The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.
Comet & boysinblush – “Psychotamer”
Only a month after her excellent Quitter EP, Comet’s teamed up with Vancouver synthpopper boysinblush for a new single. “Psychotamer” is a bit lighter than most Comet material–and a bit darker than most boysinblush material.

81355 – “Fire Over Me”
Pronounced “Bless,” the Indianapolis trio of Sean “Oreo” Jones, Sedcairn, and Sirius Blvck ventures far beyond the confines of hip-hop or progressive rap. Their ethereal new single encompasses a smattering of reference points, from blissful dream pop to delicate acoustic guitar. Their upcoming album, Bad Dogs, is the band’s first collaborative effort. As opposed to their debut album This Time I’ll Be 0f Use, written during the COVID-19 pandemic, 81355’s upcoming release celebrates rebirth and a release from chaos.

Baby in the 90s – “12th South”
Baby in the 90s has been relatively quiet since the release of their debut full-length back in 2021, but the New Orleans alt rockers are ready to break the silence. Their new single “12th South”–the first off an upcoming EP slated to drop July 25th–sounds like no time has passed at all. It’s the sort of crunchy, melodic alt rock that bands like Manchester Orchestra and All Get Out tend to shy away from these days; Baby in the 90s makes it sound effortless.

Clifford – “C Song”
Artists have tried to distill the numbing news cycle into something insightful for so long it’s started to lose its punch. How can they continue to shake the table when social media inundates us with the world’s worst horrors? When nothing is hidden and everything is on display? “Well I know it’s sick / but I can’t look / I can’t look away,” Clifford snarls. The third single on their upcoming album, Golden Caravan, oozes with malaise. As “C Song” progresses, sludgy guitar and strained vocals transform into a desolate singalong.

The Noisy – “Twos”
“Twos,” a standout from The Noisy’s 2024 LP, recently got the video treatment, and what a treatment it is. With Sara Mae’s smoky delivery and the track’s noir swing, it was a great fit to get a (mostly) black and white video about a speed date with a vampire, and it’s a thoroughly entertaining watch, soundtracked perfectly.
