The Alt Weekly Roundup

The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.

Liquid Mike – “AT&T”

“AT&T” stands apart from every other song Liquid Mike’s released until now. Replete with turntable scratches and keyboard bass, the song’s a little rawer and a little weirder than a track like “Crop Circles.” It still manages to be just as catchy, though.

Field Medic – “MELANCHOLY”

Acclaimed indie folk musician Field Medic recently announced his new album, surrender instead. Lead single “MELANCHOLY” comes after years of sobriety and therapy. After taking a break from music, he’s returned with a sunny doo-wop track that examines depression as a lifelong condition, which waxes and wanes by the day.

Flesh Tape – Gravesite

Following last year’s self-titled LP and split with Broken Record, Denver shoegazers Flesh Tape have returned with the short and sweet Gravesite EP. These three songs are as thick and noisy as anything the four-piece has ever released, and the cacophonous “False Desire” is one of the band’s heaviest tracks yet.

Propaine – This Too Feels the Same

Melbourne, Australia, post-punk quartet Propaine just unveiled their debut LP. This Too Feels the Same is a mess of wiry, taut guitar lines and uncontrolled shouting; it’s a satisfying first full-length, and tracks like “Lemonade” and “Lie” bring down the pace a bit and help to demonstrate Propaine’s versatility.

Far Caspian – “Autofiction”

“Autofiction” is the newest single from Irish indie artist Far Caspian. Acting as the namesake to his upcoming record, the ethereal love song offers a simple but groovy structure.  It features just enough heart and observation to have you chomping at the bit for the rest of the album come July 25th.

Blush – “X My Heart”

Singaporean dream pop band Blush just signed with the excellent shoegaze label Kanine (also home to Punchlove, Blushing, and High.) and announced the followup to 2023’s Supercrush. Beauty Fades, Pain Lasts Forever will drop on August 1st, and the lead single is the jangly, wide-eyed opener “X My Heart.”
