Album Review: Mura Masa – “R.Y.C”
Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff
Mura Masa’s new album R.Y.C took me by surprise this winter. While I usually find myself in a dormant state throughout the early months of the year relying on old favorites to carry me through these frigid months, Mura Masa gave my brain the warm blanket it was looking for. After releasing multiple single from the album which included features from artists such as Clairo, Wolf Alice, slowthai, and other heavy hitters, we finally got a taste of his solo craft with tracks like No Hope Generation, Vicarious Living Anthem, and In My Mind.
The simplistic yet distinct electronic beats are reminiscent of the popular “Lofi Hip Hop Radio: Beats to Relax and Study To” playlist and aim to nurture the brain with comforting rhythms while saving peak moments for select parts to exude the quickly built up energy. This is for sure going to be an album that you’ll see trend throughout year end round ups for 2020 and I encourage you to give it a listen and make it out to his spring tour!
