Track Premiere: Somerset Thrower – “Shinebox”
Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff
Somerset Thrower will release their third album this summer via Smartpunk, and the album’s lead single promised a brighter, catchier sound for the Long Island punks. Take Only What You Need lives up to that promise, the band’s most melodic and memorable album yet. Today we’re excited to bring you an exclusive premiere of my favorite song on the album, the closer “Shinebox,” a triumphant cap to Somerset Thrower’s best LP yet. The song is officially out tomorrow, but you can check out an exclusive stream below.
was almost cut during pre-production. Jon convinced us of its potential and we’re stoked on how it came out. This was the product of yet another late night session at The Animal Farm. We used my ‘95 Rickenbacker through a vintage Gibson Falcon to achieve the sound on the intro lick. Rob Chiarappa (engineer) was assisting us that night and really fed into our dreams of psychedelia. The main riff of the song reminded us of The Beatles circa ‘66, so we played into that. It speaks to those on the outside looking in. It also has the only proper “guitar solo” on the record.
Take Only What You Need to Survive is out July 11th.
