Photography + Review: Alt-J and Portugal the Man

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

March 16th, Alt-J and Portugal. The Man visited Detroit in support of Alt-J’s fourth album, The Dream. Alt-J and Portugal. The Man are two bands that put on a consistently excellent performance. Portugal. The Man did their best to compliment Detroit for its impact on culture in many different ways. This includes painting their faces to show their allegiance to the Insane Clown Posse, giving a shout out to Eminem on their large LED display, and thanking the city for square pizza, motors and Motown. Despite having over a decade of notable music, Portugal. The Man played many enjoyable covers like Nirvana’s “In Bloom”, Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2”, and the comedic “Dayman” from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. To balance out the bombastic performance of one of indie-rock’s best, alt-J gave an incredibly well-rounded show. The trio excel at making their music sound grander than just the three of them. The Dream is out now and you can stream it while you check out our photographer Alec’s pictures from the night below!
