Momma Live in Chicago with Wishy
Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff
Chicago sold out Thalia Hall last month for Momma and Wishy, two of the best bands in modern indie rock. They teamed up on tour to promote Momma’s fourth studio album Welcome to My Blue Sky and Wishy’s Planet Popstar EP, the band’s third since 2023.
Wishy, a five-piece from Indianapolis, distills noise rock and experimental pop into something much catchier than either genre has to offer on its own. They played tunes exclusively from Planet Popstar and Triple Seven, their debut album, while singers Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites wore Momma heart pendants.
Drenched in nostalgic lyricism and an impressive fluidity between acoustic and electric, Welcome to My Blue Sky feels like Momma’s victory lap after an awesome run of Interloper, Two of Me, and Household Name to open up their discography. Without falling victim to a single style or sound, the LA band has adapted its sound over the better part of a decade together.
During the show, Momma vocalist/guitarist Allegra Weingarten said Thalia Hall was the largest venue they had sold out to date. Momma continues their US tour in September, and you can get tickets here.
