EP Premiere: Seed Toss – ‘Safe and Sound’
Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff
In 2022, Montreal’s Seed Toss burst onto the scene with their Love Business EP. As one would expect from a band named after a Superchunk track, their debut was bright and energetic, four tracks that threw back to ’90s alt titans like Weezer and Dinosaur Jr. With their new EP Safe and Sound, their first release out on the excellent Detroit label Setterwind, they get a bit crunchier, a bit grittier, a bit heavier, pulling in influences from groups like Small Brown Bike and Jawbreaker. They’re a bit, now, like a less dismal counterpart to vocalist Max Lajoie’s post-hardcore group Spite House. But don’t worry, there’s still plenty of soaring pop rock goodness–see lead single “Heard You Say” or the call-and-response chorus of “Up for Grabs.”
If that sounds intriguing, you’re in luck. Safe and Sound officially drops tomorrow, but we’ve got a stream of the full EP today. It’s a great step forward for the band, retaining all the qualities that made Love Business so memorable while beefing things up a bit. Check it out below.
Safe and Sound is out tomorrow on Setterwind Records.
