EP Premiere: Jetty Bones – ‘-‘

Introspective. Defiant. Open. Those are the words that come to mind when listening to the lyrics of ‘-‘. With this release, Jetty Bones, the musical project led by Ohio based musician Kelc Galluzzo, follows heavier themes than in their previous releases, addressing subjects that can be difficult to talk about such as mental health and trauma. Out on February 22 via Take This To Heart Records, the EP builds on their established sound that wains between indie and pop-punk with the prominent use of synths and a varied punchy vocal delivery that quickly draws a listener in.
The third track, “the part:”, is a clear stand-out. Singing “this isn’t what I meant when I said way back when that you feel like a real life vacation”, Galluzzo’s racing thoughts examine the need to leave a harmful situation. As the track seems to draw to a resolution, a robotic text-to-speech voice asks “ready to send it?” as it reads over an unsent text message. It cleverly captures the difficulties in needing to bring up valid to concerns to someone who will dismiss them or turn the situation into an argument.
It’s a release that unravels with every listen. It goes through a healing process that should be celebrated as Galluzzo sings “All I could hear was the smallest of voices pulling from my ear and telling me my choice was mine”, on the EP’s closer, “The Rest Of Them.”
