EP Premiere: dweller. – ‘All the Things We Carry’

Brooklyn’s dweller. has a throwback sound. Sure, there’s another band whose name means something similar that comes to mind throughout a listen-through of the quartet’s debut EP, or shades of Manchester Orchestra and the first Valleyheart record, but more than any artist, All the Things We Carry just sounds classic. It sounds like the sort of record you’d dig out of an older siblings’ CD collection and have your life changed by, like the sort of record you’d hear on the radio on the way to school that’d stop you in your tracks.

Over the EP’s five tracks, dweller. uses a template of moody, simmering alt rock to explore loss, from the melodic bite of lead single “Night Theater” to the brooding title track. The band says that the EP “is about being overwhelmed by emotions–grief, love, loneliness, hope, longing” after the passing of a loved one, and their hope is “that people going through a similar situation have the same cathartic experience we did while creating this.”

All the Things We Carry is out tomorrow.
