Artist Playlist: Gol Olímpico

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

Mexican emo band Gol Olímpico only put out their first song ever four months ago, but today they’re unveiling their debut EP, reflejos de un ayer. It’s four tracks of beautiful sweeping emo that recalls the best of the giants of the ’90s and the most symphonic of the revival era bands while still feeling like its own entity. It’s hard to overstate how big this band would be if they debuted in 2013 instead of 2025. To celebrate the release of reflejos de un ayer, the band put together a playlist of some of his favorite Mexican indie and emo songs. Check that out below, and be sure to give reflejos de un ayer a listen after you do.

About the playlist, bandleader Andrés Pérez shares:

Emo Mexicano is a playlist curated by Gol Olímpico that brings together a new wave of bands like Miraflores, Cacomixtle, Honey Pot! and Venner—artists who are reshaping the emo sound with fresh energy and unmistakable local textures. Alongside them are foundational acts like Sureste, Trve Friends, Fútbol Mexicano, and Dan Taylor—some still active, others part of the genre’s emotional archive. Emo in Mexico has grown from niche to deeply rooted subculture, shaped by our closeness to the U.S. border—a channel for influence, but also a source of tension. While we’ve inherited sonic elements from across the border, we’ve also reimagined them through our own stories, landscapes, and emotional codes. This playlist is both a tribute and a statement: emo in Mexico doesn’t just survive—it keeps mutating, beating, and growing deeper roots with each wave. It refuses to assimilate. ¡Que viva el emo mexicano!

reflejos de un ayer is out now.
