Artist Interview: Jake Clarke of Clever Hour
Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff
Earlier this year Clever Hour put out their first-ever release, the aptly-titled Demo 2024. The band comprises Jake Clarke of Superheaven and Webbed Wing, Joey Ginaldi of Knifeplay, and Evan King of Nonfiction, and their sound isn’t far off from Superheaven’s–dark, grungy, melodic alt rock. It’s a really promising demo, as you’d expect from a band of such veterans. We’re excited to partner with the band and with Setterwind Records to announce that the demo tape is getting a vinyl release, which is currently available for preorder. Additionally, we conducted a brief interview with Clarke, which can be read below.
How did the band form?
I wrote some riffs and asked Joey and Evan to jam.
What can we expect from Clever Hour going forward?
No idea, with new bands I never have any big intentions. The goal is to write music I enjoy with people I like writing music with. Anything beyond that is a plus, hopefully more shows and more music.
How did you guys link up with Setterwind?
Jacob Weston is a long time friend and asked us if they could put out the vinyl with them/
What are some of your favorite moments on the demo?
I’m trying to match up electronic elements with rock, and there are points in the demo where I feel we nailed it. Looking forward to diving more into that on future music.
