Combining a pit of punk laced roots with folk is Portland, Oregon’s Formerly. Benjamin Smith leads the assault of acoustic guitars, and takes poeticism to a new level. His voice passionately cries out at the listener. The choruses are meaty hooks filled with communicable lyrics that are attached to rough around the edge melodies — full of strained harmonies and well paced rhythms.
