Max Gowan – ‘Devil Kid’ Song Premiere

Posted: by Sean Gonzalez

Sounding as if Elliott Smith became invested in the chilling vibes of indiegaze, “Devil Kid” by Max Gowan is the newest song to lay back and let it ride you away. The vocals are smooth, floating over the guitars as their own unique instrument. In the song, Gowan seems to be fighting another individual who is trying to influence his thoughts and tell him to “jump ship.” It’s a song about fighting off your self and being in your head, and Gowan delivers it in a way that gets the tune stuck in your own head. Listen below and make sure you find the rest of the album — entitled Mass Transit — right now on bandcamp. Tapes are being released through Little L Records

I’m a 19 year old student at American University in DC. I grew up in Raleigh and played shows there with a band called the Estates, but I’ve been releasing solo music since I was 17. I recorded a full length last year called Big People and did it in my house while I was in high school, but this new one was recorded both at my house and in my dorm room. I recorded drums wherever I could find a kit. It’s called Mass Transit, it’s about transitioning from suburban to city life and also about the weirdness of adolescence.
