She wanted to sound like Catherine Wheel or Cocteau Twins and I wanted to rip Superdrag and the Pixies and we landed somewhere in the middle. Welcome to punk/power pop in a raw and fuzzy form. Above is Demo, a three song EP from Solar for the year 2016. While not neck snappingly abrasive, there is a lot of energy that will crush listeners, whether the crashing drum work or the chuggy distortion from the guitars. The vocals slice their way through all of the dissonance and present melody through all the discordant beauty. It’s transcendental. This has been a long time coming for the group, and it shows off.
