Video Premiere: Green Dreams—’Cole (Is The Hot One)’

Green Dreams‘ 2016 full-length, Here At Castle Makeout, was produced by Meredith Graves of Perfect Pussy. Hailing from Rochester, just an hour-and-a-half west from Perfect Pussy’s home city of Syracuse, NY, Green Dreams presented themselves as prospective torchbearers for ragged post-punk in the upstate region. The record was noisy, brash, and hooky all at once, recalling the prominent flavor of their producer’s work, and also the sound of early Priests, the leaders of the DC post-punk scene that was forming concurrently. However, Green Dreams’ 2018 follow-up EP, Go Back To The Horse, moves at a more leisurely pace than the roaring highway blitz of Castle Makeout. “I wanna go slow” is the first line of the project, and although the band doesn’t sacrifice their sharpness, the songs take longer chomps rather than quick, aggressive bites to leave their marks.

“Cole (Is the Hot One)” is the fourth of five tracks on the project, and probably the most melodic song Green Dreams have ever written. Its main riff is a spinning little ear-worm that brings to mind the dizzying tilt-a-whirl the band takes a ride on in the song’s music video, which we’re premiering below. The infectious and pleasant “woo-oo” refrain registers like the wobbly rush of stepping off a rollercoaster, and the track’s atmospheric final minute is a sonic accompaniment to the flashing hues of an amusement park. Blurring together into a mesmerizing fusion of psychedelia and nostalgia.

The song is great and the video is a wholesome joyride. Watch it below:

Go Back To The Horse is out 12/28 via Dadstache Records.
