Video Premiere: Bitter Calm – “Night Stand”

Posted: by The Editor

Night Stand” is the second single  & video from Birmingham, AL band, Bitter Calm’s, upcoming album Good Grief. Haunting and patient, it’s a track that explores emotional claustrophobia—“the fear that your closeness with someone might become suddenly and mutually weaponized” as explains vocalist M. Hart.

Accompanied by the imagery of generations of songwriter M. Hart’s family floating through the frame of the home video, the song buzzes with a frequency that feels heavy and cathartic. Both “Night Stand” and the previous single “Don’t Look Down,” feature carefully cut and edited home video clips, with this example specifically having been filmed by his great grandfather. It evokes a feeling of familiarity and warmth and nostalgia for family memories that aren’t even ours. Lulled by the chattering of voices, a violin flutters throughout the track, perfectly paired with Hart’s vocals to lift and accentuate the delicately placed harmonies.

Good Grief will be released via Earth Libraries on July 5th.
