Photography: Mitski and Lucy Dacus in Central Park

We have long been fans of Mitski over at The Alternative. We interviewed her in 2015 after her breakthrough 3rd LP, bury me at makeout creek, and her career has only blossomed from there. In just a few years, she has grown from performing at small DIY venues to having sold out shows at the biggest venues in NYC. After her incredible 2018 release, Be The Cowboy, the brilliant singer and songwriter, Mitski hit the road hard, but just this past weekend she gave her last 2 performances (for a while anyway) at NYC’s Central Park Summer Stage before beginning her touring hiatus, and taking a much needed break.

From her debut album to her latest release, Mitski has proven time and time again how much of a prolific songwriter, and performer she can be. Sarah was there at her Central Park show on  September 8th, to photograph her fantastic final performance. Her contagious stage presence and flair for the dramatic were on display. A single table and chair sit center on the stage as Mitski swiftly entered the stage. As she began to sing, it became very clear how her words as if they are pouring out from her soul. Utilizing the chair and table to dance, pose and at times vandalize, Mitski showcased how dedicated she is to her art. It was certainly a night to remember.

Take a listen to Mitski’s newest record while you check out the photos of her “final” show, along with opener Lucy Dacus (who is an incredible emerging artist in her own right), below:
