On their debut self-titled release, the recently-formed Kalamazoo slacker rock outfit Suck City conjure up an ambitious eighteen minutes of raw, unbridled energy with melodic hooks to match. Featuring members of local mainstays the Reptilian and Vines, the group commands a much more reserved sound that’s instead characterized moreso by meandering rhythms and lackadaiscal structures than choatic elements and piercing noise.

In terms of modern contemporaries, Suck City would fall somewhere between Pile, Washer, Cold Foamers, and Spirit of the Beehive, though there are moments throughout the record that harken back to early Modest Mouse material as well. If you’d consider yourself a fan of any of the aforementioned bands or slacker rock in general, be sure to stream Suck City below!
