Track Premiere: Comps – “I’ll apologize one thousand times”

Posted: by admin

I’ve been taken by Comps since my first listen of “Fast Hands” from 2017’s I Love My Pets, and they were able to follow it up with nonstop gems on 2018’s Life of a Baller. Their lo-fi melodies and catchy hooks remind me of early Soccer Mommy in their simple complexity. I find myself relistening constantly, which is why it’s such great news that Comps’ songwriter Blush Cameron is cooking up a new full length. We’ve gotten a bit of an early listen, and let me just tell you, its as excellent as I was hoping.

Happy that we get to premiere the first single for you today! The song, “I’ll apologize one thousand times... then one more time”, is a space pop jam. It feels like floating through the solar system while pondering about your relationships. As Blush told us about it:

“The sound of this song is a bit different than what’s on the album I’ve been working on. I wanted to push myself to experiment with making something more “vibey” while maintaining prominent and catchy melodies. It’s definitely inspired by a lot of the 80’s music I’ve been listening to lately… stuff like Prefab Sprout, Human League, Go West, etc. The lyrics were directly inspired the song “23 Sai No Natsuyasumi” by Shinsei Kamattechan. They were also inspired by general feelings of remorse and longing. I’ve tried to keep the lyrics in a lot of the new stuff ironically innocent while also hoping to convey a sense of genuine pain.”

Take a listen to “I’ll apologize one thousand times... then one more time” below, and then check out Comps’ upcoming tour dates!
