About midway through their As You Please record release tour, Citizen played at Irving Plaza on October 26th, supported by Great Grandpa and Sorority Noise. Citizen’s opened with “Jet,” and after the first few notes off the killer riff, fans were ready to sing along to the powerful album-opener.

In between songs, frontman Mat Kerekes told the packed crowd how happy they were to be on tour with new songs to play, given that this is the first record Citizen has put out in over two years. Still, they played old hits off of Youth such as “The Night I Drove Alone,” “Sleep,” and “Roam The Room.” These songs were met with a lot of passionate fans holding their fists in the air, belting each lyric.

I give a lot of credit to the security guards that night — there was a new crowd surfer each time another one was hoisted over the barricade. Alongside the great music, Citizen had a great light setup that provided an interesting backdrop behind the drummer. Citizen has about half of their tour left to go, so go see them if they come near you!
