Split Premiere: Dandelion Hunter / Fresh Tar – ‘The Twin Tape’

On their rosy new split dubbed The Twin Tape, Ohio’s Dandelion Hunter and Indiana’s Fresh Tar present some of the year’s most essential pensive bedroom pop. Dandelion Hunter is an Athens & Columbus four-piece that started as the songwriting vehicle of bassist Collin Geddis. On their side of the 4-song short player, you’ll find a stylish blend of Saddle Creek indie and dreamy noise-pop – a blend that places Geddis’ vulnerable warble seamlessly atop charming lo-fi pop hooks. Fort Wayne’s Fresh Tar is the poetic rock project of Matthew Meriwether, who’s been pumping out material on Soundcloud since 2010. Their half of the split elegantly explores queer love and identity through candid passages of synth rock and acoustic pop; Meriwether’s intimate lyricism and knack for patient instrumental builds are evident in songs like the split’s closer “Like Angels Rising Above Me.” Don’t miss this one.
